Mary Anning is an EXCELLENT choice. She was groundbreaking in many ways, firstly in recognising how very important the Jurassic coast is in terms of fossils (paleontology) and evolution, but also for being a woman. Back then women were not accepted into geology, or into many sciences at all. She was incredibly important, and is definitely one of my geological heroes. It’s sometimes not easy to be a woman in science- people like Mary Anning are inspirational. Another of my favourite geologists is Charles Darwin- people think of him as an evolutionary biologist, but he was actually a geologist as well, and documented the rocks he saw on his travels. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/history-of-geology/darwin-the-geologist/
