Hopefully, not in the near future because I have already paid for my holiday! 🙂
Nobody knows the future because the action of today will determine the outcome of tomorrow. If on changes his/her action, the future will change

It just takes 1 BIG asteroid to sneak in to the earths atmosphere undetected by the 100s of radio telescopes and astronomers trained to detect them and slam into earth…. I don’t think the dinosaurs ever saw it coming! Just saying!

When the sun gives up- probably not for a few billion years yet! The Earth will outlive us humans by a long way.

All things must come to an end but we can do the best to stop it happening in the near future. We need to combat global warming, climate change and man-made changes we are making to our planet. These are the things that could cause life to begin to die at a massive rate… But lets say we succeed in this… and everything solved on earth.

We would then need to make sure that space based extinction events are detected and thwarted… We are getting better at this and believe it or not, even lasers may be able to redirect asteroids headed towards earth and if we pass this milestone, humanity may exist for a long time…

So the next barrier to cross is the sun dying… As it ages the sun will swell and begin to swallow the inner planets. Although it will be cooler it will also be so much closer that the planets will not be able to survive this… Perhaps at this point, humans will be travelling in space crafts or existing on planets further from the sun, such as Mars or the moons of the gas giants… This will be 1 billion years in the future though, at least.

If we survive this and make our own energy sources as the sun dies, eventually we will be space nomads. The universe itself eventually has to come to an end, perhaps in trillions of years… The current theory is that space will expand to such an extent that even atoms will not be able to stay together and the universe will cool to a dark empty void of particles drifting further apart.

It’s not very cheery but this is so far in the future, it’s not worth worrying about!
