I like Plesiosaurs- they’re a bit like a diplodocus crossed with a whale, and just look like they would have been really graceful. You can see great examples of them in Dorset at a little museum tucked away in Kimmeridge Bay, it’s well worth a visit!

I’m going to go for a classic! Tyrannosaurus Rex

YES I chose a T-Rex but there is so much to say here. Firstly they were always awesome in things like Jurassic Park – that’s a given (though T-Rex was not a Jurassic dinosaur). The name literally means “tyrant lizard king”.

Look at its arms. That is the idea that through evolution, if something is not necessary it begins to become obsolete. The dinosaur clearly used it’s mouth for hunting and the arms were just not necessary so they disappeared.

They look cool but in all of our imaginings we forget that the T-Rex comes from right at the end of the Cretaceous period (after the Jurassic). Dinosaurs were well on the way to developing into the modern bird and that means that as well as its size, the T-Rex may have had feathers as well… I find this even more terrifying!

Were they hunters or did they scavenge other food? I don’t know but it’s an awesome beast!
