Mars is very similar to Earth in terms of what we know about its formation. It’s a rocky planet and sits further out than the Earth. We used to think that the ice caps on Mars were dry-ice (Carbon Dioxide that had frozen) but there is now reason to believe that earlier in its life Mars had liquid water and the ice caps may contain liquid water as well.

Having liquid water is a very exciting idea – it means that Mars may have been capable of supporting life at some point. I should point out there is no evidence that it did but research is ongoing. It is now a very cold place with a mostly carbon dioxide atmosphere but at it’s warmest it can get just above freezing.

As the sun expands and heats up, Mars may be a place humanity could settle as it is quite similar to Earth in a lot of ways. It’s also probably our most researched planet as we have sent lots of rovers to explore the surface and they’re always feeding information.

OH and the sky is pink there due to the dust being swept into the atmosphere!
