In my twenties I really prioritised spending all my money and free time on plane tickets! I was really keen to see as much of the world as I could. I’ve been to Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, China, Cuba, Peru, the USA, Greece, Italy, Singapore, China, France, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Wales…. some of these places I’ve been to for work, some for backpacking and camping for months at a time, some for shorter holidays. I’m really glad I have seen so many places because it has shaped me as a person, given me confidence (once you’ve sky-dived you can do anything!), made me more aware of different cultures, and has made me a better geologist for sure- I’ve seen a lot of rocks! I didn’t have a lot of money growing up, I worked while I was travelling to make ends meet- I am proof that you don’t need to be rich to see the world!
