• Question: How would you want to move forward in your career?

      I would like to be a Chief scientific officer or a chief technology officer in a biotech company or the head of research in a pharmaceutical company company where I will be able to shape the direction of research and do cutting edge science.

      Hi Saniya, tough question! I am still not sure on this one- all my life I have not really had a set plan, I just keep doing what I love. But I am ambitious, and want to keep moving up. The parts of my job that I enjoy most are being able to teach junior staff, develop training courses, carry out cool research, and write scientific articles (which are the way we scientists communicate our research to the wider world). I enjoy mentoring others and enabling them to be the best they can be. So I hope, moving forward, that as I move up the ladder I get to do more and more of these aspects of my job.

      Hi Saniya, i see my career as a journey rather than destination. I started off as a technician and currently a trainee consultant clinical scientists and pursuing a professional doctorate. I am in my first year and i believe this opportunity will open further doors for me. I am ambitious and i have taken a couple of risks which did not all turn out positive however the learning from those has made an impact on my journey. I definitely want to be at the place of power and influence so the next generation can relate and see it can be done. And even though i work in engineering, i would like to constantly be abreast with new trends within my area of expertise but to be positioned in a place where i am leading across organisations and professional boundaries. I don’t know where exactly this will be and how it will look like in reality and at what point but that what i see and i have to seek for those opportunities that will get me there along my journey.
