Lawrencium was discovered in 1965. The element does not occur naturally, and must be produced in a particle accelerator by bombarding californium atoms with boron atoms.
In this general science zone you’ll meet a scientist working single atoms and molecules to understand how they behave, another learning about how the Earth has changed over millions of years and another using worms and amoebas to understand how bacteria found around us may develop the ability to kill us. You’ll also meet a scientist researching how our own immune system could fight cancer, a scientist who buys, tests, maintains and fixes medical equipment used in hospitals, and another trying to see if we can use individual molecules to build a special type of computer, called a quantum computer.
